-
Senior Project Manager at Eskom Holdings, through Mindworx and EOH
March 2011 - August 2013The Senior Project Management position is for the Microsoft SharePoint Implementation Project (MSIP) for the Eskom Holdings utility, South Africa. A comprehensive Microsoft SharePoint Enterprise 2010 platform is being implemented for the enterprise, with a licensed user base in excess of 45,000 users and an estimated 2,500+ communities. It is speculated that the project is the biggest Microsoft SharePoint project currently in Africa. The new Enterprise Collaborative Working Environment (CWE) caters for branded MySites for all users, a comprehensive collaboration environment for communities and their activities, the intranet and also the gradual take-on of the organisation's internet environments. Custom development is employed to cater for specific requirements, whilst search requirements are catered for through FAST Search. The MSIP project is also responsible for establishing a comprehensive SharePoint Centre of Excellence (CoE) that will provide all SharePoint-related services in the organisation. The CoE currently consists out of 22 permanent employees and 28 graduates. Apart from managing the Project Management Office (PMO) for the project, Fred is also responsible for managing the Architecture, Development and Deployment streams for the project and CoE. The project requires a hands-on approach, with detailed input required for the overall CWE architecture, collaboration strategies, user interface designs and Content Management. Architecture involvement is active participation in the architecting and design of the overall solution, covering various aspects like the Process, Information, Application and Technology architecture components. He also plays an active role in the organisation's Enterprise Content Management analysis and architecture initiatives, especially within a CWE context. Project management in the organisation is based on PMI's PMBOK framework. The project is currently on schedule and within its budget limitations.

Senior Project Manager & Business Analyst at Eskom Holdings, through EOH, Computer Foundation & Hampton Consulting
September 2001 - February 2011Several projects were successfully completed during the period, including the CIM@E project, with the objective to provide a UML-based model of the client's business information, based on international standards and extended with various added dimensions of additional information. The project had to devise the required modelling landscape, methodology, and meta model, as well as all the modelled content and all other supporting components. Documentation and system integration messages are generated from the UML-based models. The project also required a practical, hands on contribution to Architectural framework components, like the Information, Data, Application and Integration components. An Architecture Integration forum was established that evaluated modelled-based integration architecture designs and solutions on a weekly basis. Fred chaired several of these forum meetings. The project is considered by international experts to be a leading edge information modelling project and as one of only a handful worldwide to attempt such a complex and integrated modelling deliverable. Another project that was successfully completed was the Power System Simulation Tool project. The purpose of the project was to help Eskom Distribution to source internationally, and to implement a Power System Simulation Tool software system that would suit their requirements. The purpose of the tool was to model, simulate and analyse the extremely complex power networks built by the organisation. The requirements for such a software system were vast and technically very challenging. Other projects included KPI Management facilities, a System Integration analysis project, and an Engineering Data Standards project.
